Michaela & Lee’s Wedding, Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire

I’ve had a really hard time with my website overthe last 3 weeks.  Without boring you all stupid my website wasn’t allowing me to upload any images…being a Wedding Photographer – I’m sure you will agree that this is the worst thing that can happen!  I totally believe that my website is my shop front and if your shop front doesn’t look great people will not spend long looking at your site – simple as that.  By the beauty of technology, my website is now fixed! and so I have a 3 week backlog of uploading…I’ve been itching to blog about all my recent weddings and has really depressed that I wasn’t able to, but now that I can ….I am over the moon.  I will also be updating my slideshow over the next few days so keep a look out!

Right so a couple of weeks ago I shot Michaela & Lee’s wedding.  You may remember I blogged their pre-wedding shoot a few months ago and at last the wedding day arrived..  Michaela was a stunning Bride and Lee was a dashing Groom…  He was proud as punch to be marrying Michaela and embarking on their married lives together..take a look at some of my favourite photos of their wedding….   Click here to see the whole album

Churmstock… Camping, dancing and beautiful people.

I was lucky enough to be a guest at a wedding last weekend..  The invitation said ‘Churmstock’ – the bride & groom, run an events company – Churmstock Events.  They organised the whole thing…They hired the Herfordshire Young Mariners Base in Cheshunt and they totally decked it out – Gerry the bride worked for months making home made bunting and flags and they spent days putting up Marquees, organising food and music and tonnes of entertainment for the kids.  The attention to detail was amazing even down to baby sitters for the children in the tents so party goers could carry on into the night and early morning!

Gerry and I are great friends, we both had our first child at the same time – now both are at school…where did the time go Gerry?  We lived just a few doors away until I moved to Cambridge last year and now sadly we don’t see as much of each other as I would like.  Its not often in life that I see a couple and I know that they are perfect for each other… and when I took these lovely photos of Steve & Gerry  I saw how much in love they were, it is such an honour to spend intimate time with my friends on their wedding day!

Thanks Gerry & Steve – it was a fabulous wedding weekend….I’m still catching up with my sleep!   To see all the photos from this wedding click here

Favourite Weddings of 2010

Hannah & James Rice

September 2010

I met Hannah and James at the beginning of last year, aparantly they had been looking for a wedding photographer for some time.  The reason for their delay was that they wanted an informal unobtrusive approach and wanted someone who would fit in with their intimate wedding.  The guest list was small but it was quality not quantity and there really was a great deal of Love in the room.

Often at weddings, I feel like ‘part of the family’ but never more so than at Hannah & James’s wedding – their family came from far and wide – James’s brother had flown in from Japan for the wedding, and Hannah’s family had come to Cambridge from Wales.  It was a lovely  group of people all there to share in the Marriage of their daughter, sister, son, brother or friend and it really did feel like a celebration.

I met Hannah & James earlier in the year at the venue which was ‘The George’ in Buckden,  While we were there we had a walk around and stumbled accross ‘Buckden Towers’ which is a Christian Retreat and Conference Centre, but is absolutely stunning and open to the public!

We had an informal pre-wedding shoot, where I got to know Hannah & James and more importantly they got to know me, and my way of shooting couples.  I felt I captured their love and excitement for their pending celebration.

So later in the Year I met Hannah & James for their big day!  Hannah was so happy and greeted me like we were old friends.  Logistically the wedding day couldn’t have been easier, Hannah got ready in The George Hotel, she merely needed to walk down the stairs to get to where the ceremony was and after the Ceremony we went over the road to ‘Bucken Towers’ to do our family photos and our couple photos.  have a look at my favourite photos from the day! …now where to start choosing my favourites…..Help!

Michaela & Lee – Pre-Wedding Shoot

So 2011 season begins…  Today I met up with Michaela and Lee at Hinchingbrooke Country Park in Huntingdon.  The venue for our Pre-wedding shoot was chosen by Michaela because it was where Lee had proposed!Lee and Michaela The leaves aren’t yet on the trees and the sky looked a little menacing, but we carried umbrella’s into the park for our pre-wedding shoot.   As I told Michaela & Lee, I had been to this park last summer for a Pre-wedding shoot for Sarah & Mark.  The Park looked like a different place, the last time I was there was one of the hottest days of last summer and today was chilly, but the beauty of nature is evident in Winter and Summer and today was a great day to take photos.  The light was really lovely today and the park was full of the hues of winter -browns, reds and oranges. Click Here to see Michaela & Lee’s photos

It was lovely to catch up with Michaela and Lee again as I met up with them months ago when they booked me for their wedding, which will be later this summer.  Its great doing a pre-wedding shoot, I could tell the couple were a little nervous of being shot in public, but the great thing about the Pre-Wedding Shoot is that it gives my couples a glimpse of how I will be posing them on their wedding dayMichaela and Lee.  I could tell by the end of the shoot they were much more at ease with me and this will definitely help on the big day!..  As a part of the package Michaela and Lee chose Click Here for my Packages and prices,  The pre-wedding shoot is complementary and they will also get to choose a complementary 8×10 Print.  I think they may have trouble choosing  – there are lots of lovely photos and Michaela & Lee look stunning in all of them.

They are a gorgeous couple and I am really looking forward to shooting their wedding in the Summer! Click Here to see the Online Album of Michaela & Lee’s Pre-Wedding Shoot

Lee brought with him, Mark – his Best Man. He was a great help – he carried the umbrella, and Michaela’s handbag (It suited him!).  It was great to meet Mark because I don’t often get to meet the wedding party before the big day…Little does Mark know that now I know who he is…I’ll be calling on him to help with getting my groups together on the big day – often I enlist the help of a Groomsman, or Best man to aid me in finding who is who for the group photos.   – Well I try to make them work for their title! – all in good spirit though – I try to help everyone have a good time!

Favourite Weddings of 2010

0ne of my favourite weddings of 2010 – Philippa & Barney at Longstowe Hall, Cambridgeshire

Philippa & Barney live in Dubai and came home to have their wedding at a beautiful Elizabethan Country House in Cambridgeshire. Click here to see the Longstowe Hall website  I have chosen a few of my absolute favourites images from the day.  I remember this wedding very well because something happened that happens very rarely – I bumped into someone I knew at the wedding! A guy who I knew from University 15 or so years ago!  I managed to have a chat with him toward the end of the day and we realised we were both going to another friend’s wedding this year. – Small world :)

Longstowe Hall

Philippa wore a beautiful dress by Ian Stuart and she looked totally amazing in it – lucky for her she is beautiful, slim and tall :) Barney looked very proud and not at all nervous.  The ceremony was lovely and inside the stunning Longstowe Hall.  It was a gorgeous room with tapestries draped on the wall – a fabulous place to be married.   The ceremony room itself can only carry 40 people so after, Philippa and Barney walked outside to be greeted by more guests waiting in the sunshine!  I really felt the love in the room, not only because people really love the couple, but because they had travelled half way across the world to be married.  The sheer beauty and History of the Hall added to the drama of the day.  The building and the grounds provided me with loads of ideas for beautiful shots and their album is packed full of stunning images!

Longstowe Hall is a private residence and the family live in the house, they are a lovely family and warmly open their grounds and home for weddings! It is such

a beautiful location with beautiful flower borders, a Rose garden and a lake – perfect backdrop for wedding photos! – It makes my job so much easier when I shoot a wedding at a lovely venue such as Longstowe Hall, also Philippa & Barney were such a lovely couple, very easy to pose and so much in Love it wasn’t hard to capture their feelings in the photos!

Gearing up to another busy Summer :)

So its 2011 and slowly I’m getting geared up for the busy season ahead.  I am thinking today about the weather..the last 2 years have been quite wet Summers so I am thinking about the law of averages that this year is going to nice and dry! – well I can wish.  On that note though quite a lot of my best weddings have been rainy days.  You may think if it rains on your wedding day – its the end of the world but its sooo not true, actually its usually much better light on an overcast day than on a very sunny day, you get less direct sun , less shadows and less squinting.

A beautiful white or cream umbrella is a good investment

A good photographer should be able to get great wedding photos whatever the weather but  I have chosen a few photographs to show you that some of the best photos can be taken even when the rain is pouring :)

However it does pay to have a plan B in case the weather wrecks Havoc with your day…

Wet Weather Wedding Photography Tips

They do say it’s good luck for it to rain on your wedding!  We are particularly blessed here in the UK  – but in most people’s dreams about their wedding day it’s a brilliantly clear blue sky day with not a cloud in the sky. Rain can put a real damper on your perfect wedding day, so it’s pays to have a think about what to do if it does rain.

Wet weather wedding ceremony plans

Find an obliging tree for cover - have an umbrella handy though!

So what if rain is on the cards for your wedding day and you’ve planned your wedding outside? Well don’t panic (or try not too) but do get organised to ensure you have a back up location for wet weather on the day. A good first option is check with your wedding reception venue. Although your wedding day is your special day at that venue, they will have had many weddings there and will be able to tell you what other couples have done when the weather turns bad.   Remember your venue wants you to have the best day of your life and they should give you any advice that will help you achieve this!

Wet Weather Photography Plans

Your wedding photograper should be able to suggest good places for wedding photos in the event of rain. If they are a local photographer their knowledge will be great and they can suggest places with tree coverage, or some outside buildings like pagodas, or cloisters.  Be sure to discuss this at your meetings and have a think about what to do in the event of awful weather. You will be surprised what a professional photographer can come up wit.  Remember it maybe your 1st wedding but a wedding photographer has years of experience to tap into.  You should be able to trust your photographer to take good photos in any weather.

Find a covered area - great if it rains but also great if the sun is too harsh

We are lucky in the UK that the weather is rarely torrential  – some countries they have a ‘rainy season’ and you can have hours of absolute horrendous down pours!  Often if its going to rain we get showers and this allows us to wait for gaps in the rain and run out to get the photos we need.  there has only ever been 1 wedding in my 6 years that we have not managed to get outside for photos at all.  This was in November so it wasn’t all that surprising.  We were lucky that the inside of the venue had lots of lovely places for photos, so we were ok.  I did offer the Bride a complementary shoot on another day but she loved the photos that much that she didn’t feel she needed another shoot.

Remember: just relax, smile and enjoy your wedding day!

I’ve taken some fantastic photos from a wet wedding day, and it’s mainly because the couple smiled, laughed, and had a lot of fun! Wet weather will only ruin your wedding if you let it.  If it seems like rain – bring a white umbrella and don’t get too upset if your Bridal train gets dirty……

Cambridge University Weddings

I just thought, that I had mentioned below on my blog about Michael & Sarah’s wedding that I am doing in August this summer, that I had done a couple of other weddings that involved a shoot at St. John’s College in Cambridge.  I thought I would add a couple of photographs that were taken at St. John’s College that I have taken in my past…

This was a wedding I did yast year – Katy & Tom  they are a lovely couple both me while at University in Cambridge, Katy was from the USA on a post-grad and Tom also a student met at the Uni.  They now live in the States but decided to come back to where they met to get married.  Tom’s family live in the UK but about 100 of Katy’s friends and family made it over from the States for the wedding!  It was a beautiful day  – filled with lots of love and laughter.  I absolutely loved Katy’s hair it was so simple – tumbling curls half up half down with some simple white fuchsia’s pinned in. These same flowers were used throughout the day in the bouquets,  the button holes and the table decorations!  I absolutely loved that Katy had a lime green stole which really went with the pinks in her bouquet..pink and lime green looks great together – very creative.
